Business & Trade Seminar

There is a steady increase in the number of immigrants from China who work in business and trade, who look for opportunities for developing business in Canada and China. For the purpose of keeping them informed, since 2003, OJFA has held a series of presentations on business and trade between/in Canada and China. The presentations have also created a chance for increasing understanding and sharing information among people working in the area of business and trade from both countries.

The first session of the series was led by Mr. Huang Wenchu, the then Director of the China Section of Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Canadian Director of Ontario-Jiangsu Science & Technology Centre. He has since then been assigned the post of Commercial Counselor of Canadian Consulate General Shanghai. The presentation was on how to take advantage of Ontario government resources. Mr. Huang Wenchu elaborated on the important role that Ontario plays in Canadian export trade, investments and projects in China; the resources and the strengths of Ontario enterprises. Presenting the development in business and trade between China and Canada in recent years, he emphasized the contribution that Chinese immigrants have made to the business and economic development in Ontario. Finally, Mr. Huang made suggestions on how small and medium-sized businesses by Chinese immigrants could expand by making further contacts with established businesses in Ontario and making full use of the support that the provincial government provides. The presentation attracted over 150 people in various lines of business and received heated responses from the audience.
