Building Bridges

Since 1999, Ontario-Jiangsu Friendship Association has dedicated itself to the promotion of social, cultural and economic exchange between Ontario and Jiangsu Province. During the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the first friendship agreement between Ontario and Jiangsu Province, which established the twinning relationship between the two provinces, OJFA played an active role in planning and organizing all kinds of celebration activities as well as in receiving government delegations from Jiangsu Province. Over the years, the Chinese delegations that OJFA has received include:

  • Business Recruitment Delegation for the Sixth World Chinese Entrepreneur Convention led by Wang Yiming, Vice Chairman of All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce
  • Foreign Trade and Business Delegation led by Ji Yunshi, Governor of Jiangsu Province
  • Jiangsu Provincial Government Delegation led by Li Yuanchao, Party Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of People's Congress of Jiangsu Province
  • Jiangsu Provincial Government Delegation led by Wang Shouting and Feng Mingang, Vice Party Secretaries of Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee
  • Jiangsu Provincial Government Delegation led by Wu Ruilin, Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province
  • Jiangsu Provincial Government Delegation led by Zhao Shaolin, Senior Consultant of Jiangsu Provincial Government, and Wang Guosheng, Head of the Organization Department of Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee
  • Jiangsu Provincial Government Delegation led by Zhao Kezhi, Deputy Governor of Jiangsu Province

Ontario-Jiangsu Friendship Association was also involved in the preparations for the visit to Jiangsu Province by Hon. Jim Flaherty, Minister of Enterprise, Opportunity and Innovation at the time. It gave advice for Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's visit to China. As a representative of Toronto Chinese community, OJFA took part in the press conference held prior to Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Mike Colle's visit to China. OJFA's contribution to facilitating mutual understanding between the peoples of Ontario and Jiangsu is fully recognized by both governments. 

 

From July 26th to August 1st, 2004, Li Yuanchao, Party Secretary of Jiangsu Provincial CPC Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of People's Congress of Jiangsu Province, was invited to visit Canada. During Secretary Li's visit in Canada, OJFA, in collaboration with the Confederation of Toronto Chinese Canadian Organizations and All-Canada Federation of Chinese Canadians, held a grand banquet in honor of Secretary Li and his delegation. At thebanquet, Secretary Li gave a speech entitled 'Beautiful Land, Hospitable People'. After the speech, Secretary Li meets some of the members of Ontario-Jiangsu Friendship Association.

Invited by Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Hon. Sandra Pupatello, Executive Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province, Mr. Zhao Kezhi visited Ontario from October 26, 2006. During this visit, Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sandra Pupatello and Executive Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province Zhao Kezhi formally established the Ontario-Jiangsu Business Council to strengthen trade and investment ties between both provinces. In honor of Jiangsu Provincial Government Delegation led by Vice Governor Mr. Zhao Kezhi Ontario-Jiangsu Friendship Association held a grand banquet at Golden Regency Restaurant on October 28, 2006. At the banquet, Executive Vice Governor of Jiangsu Provice Zhao Mr. Kezhi met with international students from Jiangsu Province.
